Hawt Dang, this light is bright!

I’ve been looking for a decent light for me e-bike. It came with one, but it’s not very bright. I ride on dark country roads at night, and its important to see whats in front of me. I’ve already had an accident with a racoon, which cost me hundreds of dollars in repairs on the bike. I’ve been buying cheap lights, and one I really liked, which was a 2,500 lumen, rechargeable light that I found on Amazon. That light was fine, until it wasn’t. It just randomly started turning off when riding, which is very dangerous, so I had started also using the built in light on my bike for safety. But after about a month of having the light, the high beam started to pulsate, and now it no longer works. Not only that, but the charge indicator stopped working. Womp Womp.

I’ve bought many cheap bike lights, and they always do that. Many that I bought at walmart had issues where they’d just change modes when you hit a bump.

So, I got fed up with the cheap lights. Started looking at more pricey, branded lights. they should be built at higher quality, and also have a warranty. I looked at a few, until I seen the MagicShine Monteer 12000. The 12,000 stands for the lumens it has, which does sound like a tad bit too much, but if i’m going to buy a light for hundreds, I want to get the best! The thing I liked about the light is it came with an external battery pack, which you can take off and charge, and not only that, it’ll have more battery life. It says 2 and a half hours at full 12,000 lumens, but I knew i’d never really need that, so even at half that, i’ll get like 8 hours. The 2,500 lumen light I had gotten off ebay had a 2 hour charge. So, even if I used the monteer 12000 at 2,500 lumens, which I was fine with with the amazon light, I’d get like 15 hours or so, which is great.

Only problem is, the Monteer 12000 is $550! which is way too much for a light, so i moved on a bit and kept looking.

Then around Christmas time i saw that the light was on sale for $439.99, which is alot lower, then I found a 15% coupon online, which worked at the sale price, and bought the total down to $373.99, which is almost $200 off, so I couldn’t pass. So I ordered.

Fast Forward a week or so, and the light is here, and damn is it bright!

Little demonstration video show how bright the Monteer 12000 is than the built in light on my e-bike, which is a Velotric Nomad 1.

Loving it!

The light is more than enough. The controls are a bit weird, and the iOS app is taking a bit to learn. I think the light modes built into the light change depending on whatever I set the profiles to in the app.

Which is confusing, but probably will be better once I learn what’s actually going on, and which settings I like.

Right now I have full on 12,000 lumens, and then a dimmer beam with the sides cut off so I don’t blind people in the opposite lane. When I start riding to town again I’ll probably keep it set to around 5k lumens for a battery life, which should be way more than enough.

Hopefully it doesn’t crap the shitter quickly, or ever, like most led lights seem to.

The handlebar on my bike are starting to become way too complicated. So far, there are controls for the bike itself, controls for the tail light, and now controls for the headlight. Soon, I plan on getting bluetooth controls for my phone so I can easily skip shitty songs that play while I ride.  It’s a headache trying to skip songs while riding due to the shakiness on these back country roads, sunlight,  while trying to control the bike while riding, so usually have to stop to change songs.
