A few months ago the Live Writer client I have been using to post decided it no longer wanted to work. Which sucked because i really loved it, and Live Writer was the only reason I started using WordPress to begin with, years ago. Live Writer made it very easy to post and publish pictures and whatever. At the time wordpress had just released their 3.6 update, and I assumed that update changed something, which broke Live Writer. Turns out as i found out last night, my host had updated something on their end which broke the xmlrpc tool thing that lets other services connect to wordpress. My host just fixed this for me last night.
Surprisingly to me, this happening lead to a great change. It forced me to use the actual built in WordPress editor, which i have found to be far superior to Live Writer. Especially the media posting.
For a while now I’ve been using a LightBox plugin which allowed people to click on thumbnails to view the full pictures in a popup. Problem with this is that I wanted people to be able to comment on the images as well, which wasn’t possible with the plugins I could find.
I found a new system for displaying and loading pictures on this site, and best of all it’s built into WordPress, along with some plugins created by the wordpress team.
Not only does it have a sexy popup feature which includes a comment form, it also displays the thumbnails in a very sexy fashion.
Only down side is this uses the gallery feature in wordpress. Prior to me discovering this feature I was manually uploading images and inserting them into posts, so those images will not use the new lightbox, or sexy thumbnails.
I am going through and manually updating all those old posts. Takes some time to do, but i’ll get there.
