A few years ago I wrote about how I sold the damnidunno.com. It didn’t take me too long after that sale to regret selling the domain, because i always loved the named, and the idea of the site.
I tried buying it back from the guy a few times, but the guy was hard to contact, and i didn’t want to pay any big bucks or anything in order to buy the domain back. Every year i looked at the whois to see if it expired, but the guy kept renewing it.
This year I got very lucky. I normally buy expiring domains from Godaddy Auctions, or Name.com Expiring domains. These services let you buy soon to expire and be deleted domains from the registrars. I was wondering if Enom had a simliar service for its expiring domains. After some researched i discovered they do, and its NameJet.
damnidunno.com expired in feburary i believe, so i kept checking NameJet to see if the domain was listed there. surely enough after a month it was. Their service works a little bit different than the others. They hav e different stages of domain auctions. There is PreRelease, and after that there is PendingDelete, and so on.
damnidunno was on the first process which is PreRelease, which requires a minimum bid of $69, and if you’re the only one who bid on the domain before the deadline hits, the domain is yours. Since I was the only bidder I was awarded the domain.
I really recommend these services if you’re wanting to catch some good domains. I got the aged domain MadBoard.com, and some others from Godaddy Auctions. I use the closeout/expiring/buy it now auctions on there so i don’t have to pay the monthly auction fee. The only thing that sucks about godaddy expiring domain auctions is you do not get th e domain immediately. You have to wait about 43 days from the expiration date of the domain in order to get the domain. This allows the previous owner to have time to renew the domain during the Redemption Period.
I also bought some pretty nice aged domains on Name.com. They recently raised their prices in the past year, so the way it works is domains start at like $179, and each day the price gets lower, and lower til it gets to around $11. The price used to start at $38 i believe. Great thing about Name.com is that you get the domains instantly after you pay the fee.
You can easily buy aged quality domains on these services, and resell them for double, if not $XXX more than what you paid. For example Irecently bought a domain for $38 on Name.com, and resold it for $155. I could’ve gotten much more for the domain, but I like to buy domains and quickly sell them. I hate sitting on domains waiting for some crazy buyer who’ll pay alot, so as long as i double what i paid, i’m happy. So even though i didn’t rake in $x,xxx o nthe domain, i have more money than i started with, and you can easily sell many more, and make some good extra money.
I usually list my domains on NamePros.com, or digitalpoint. but there are many other places you can sell domains at.
I’m really excited to have the damn domain back. I tried to replace damnidunno with SillyPage, OddWorld XD, owhatever, and wuteva, but none of those domains could replace my beloved Damnidunno, ha,
I’m really not too sure what i’m going to be doing with the site, or what. Might post my non personal articles/blog posts on there, i’m unsure.
