Setting up gallery!

I’ve been posting my pictures in the normal blog post format, but I’ve always found it to be ugly and not very navigable. Certain didn’t have the gallery type feel. I am still tryin to find a way to edit the templates so that it looks like a gallery on the picture sections, but that could be a long ways away because I simply don’t know how to do it

I use wordpress as the main CMS on the site, and its been very hard to find any decent gallery plugins for it. Most of them are just embed slideshows, which are silly, and not at all what I’m wanting. I want the gallery to have a gallery like layout, with albums, pictures and the ability to comment on them individually.

I have many separate scripts on the site, such as the guestbook script, (which I have easily and nicely integrated with the site}, so I figured I could go ahead and do this with the gallery.

I have the gallery set up right now at http://www.joshx.com/gallery/ , but it doesn’t have the site’s feel and appearance on it yet. I’ll work on that later. Right now im really just messing with it and seeing how I like it. I’m using the gallery 3 script which can be found at http://gallery.menalto.com/ . I like it a lot so far.

The skinning system looks weird at first, but im sure before too long I’ll have it using the site’s layout, and no one will be the wiser that it’s a separate script.

There is a wordpress plugin for it, but it only lists and displays some pictures in a non attractive way really, mostly looks like cheap embedding. I’d actually prefer to manually post pictures as I have been doing than use the plugin.

The only real big disadvantage that I can think of is now there will be no more alerts when new pictures are added in the update bar thing on top of the site. I think this can be resolved kinda by using the RSS output feeds the gallery creates. So it may be fine.

Anyways, feel free to naviate the gallery, and comment on pictures and all that good stuff Open-mouthed smile

Site may be down for a few days

My host is switching to new servers, so there is a possibility that JoshX.com and other sites I run will be down for a day or even more.
Just a heads up that the sites arent dead, and that I didn’t get weird and delete everything lol Open-mouthed smile

turns out the site was only down for an hour or so if even that. But ther ecould ben times in the next day which the site may not connect due to DNS updates, but all should be good. Smile

ha, layout updated once again.

As you can obviously see, I have updated the sites layout once again.

With the site layout, I’ve also updated my logo, and made it chromie like, ha. Well I call this entire theme Chrome. So far I like it. It’s a bit of a change from the dark creepy red and black stuff, but a good change I suppose. Many people said the bright colors stand out a bit more.

For years I ran a very popular and successful MJ site. I always used the “black n gold” color scheme on it, and loved it very much. Since I sold that site, and wont ever be doing a MJ related site again, I decided I might as well use these colors that I love. So wallah! I like it so far. It’s just weird using the colors for myself after all these years, but I love the style, and its better than letting it die and disappear I guess.

Here is the new updated logo (incase for some reason you cant already see it on the site, ha):

I think it looks cool.

And here is the new layout next to the old (for comparison):

I still need to edit many of the graphics on the site, and even do some minor code work on some of the pages, so some stuff might not look right, and may even have the old red graphics on it, I’ll get to them.

Hope everyone likes the new change Open-mouthed smile

New Guestbook up! WOOT!

Visit and sign my new guestbook! Or even see if your post from 10 years ago is still in there, ha!

I had a guestbook on the site for the past few months that was basically a wordpress plugin, it completely sucked, and was super ugly; almost impossible to change the look.

So I went back to a older script that I used to use years ago called “Advanced GuestBook”, and thought that I’d give it ago and see if i can integrate it with the layout and theme on Josh X, and eventually got it to integrate pretty well, which actually shocked me.

I spent most of the time editing the templates and coding on it to make it work and look how i wanted, and it seems to do the job.

I know its ugly ha really, but i wanted to keep the old classic style for now. I’ll eventually add to it, and make it prettier, but my goal for now was just to get it looking like the original.

I manually imported all the info from my old guestbook that i had since 1998. Actually passed out doing it earlier. Really sucked and i hope to never have to do something like that again. But i wanted to get it done so I’d have a log or copy or whatever of my old guestbook. It was hosted on HTMLGear – which is a crappy service that I don’t even want to bother linking to, or talking about any longer, ha.

i am really happy i finally got a guestbook up that Im happy with. I kind of want to get back into the way the web used to be when i was younger.  I know i write about this alot, but it was MUCH more fun. We used to run aroundon the web tagging eachothers guestbooks, ha. Was awesome.

Anyways you can visit the Guestbook, and why not go ahead and sign it? :-P

If you wanna check the script out, you can download it here. But remember i heavily modified mine, so it wont really look the same.
